Tal-ay Ridge, Catubli-an, Hinunangan, Southern Leyte

Flor's 40 year high school reunion is upcoming and she and a friend are planning the event. They found a caterer who also manages a beautiful place in the mountains they called Tal-ay Ridge.  It is a gem in the rough. There is an event hall/restaurant and several anahaw/bamboo huts around the facility.

Tal-ay Ridge

It is a rough mountain road to get to the place. They do have a parking area at the bottom of the mountain where you can park and they drive up the road. We drove up to the place and was in first gear all the way up and back down. The only problem is that when it rains the road will be too slippery for vehicles even ones with a four-wheel drive.

The place has a cabana where some gift items are available, a videoke machine for anybody who wants to use it.  Filipino parties are never complete without one, of course.  You can order meals ahead of time and it will be ready for you when you get there. Renie, who manages the place, is an experienced chef who decided to leave the rat-race life of Manila and returned home to run the place and his catering business.

At this time they do catering and events. There is a chapel for weddings. They are building a hotel with a large veranda. With the view and breeze coming up the mountain from the ocean, it will be a great lounging area with a great view.

Overlooking rice fields in the valley, you can see the Das-ay River snaking through at the foot of the mountain, Beyond is an endless view of the Pacific ocean and of San Pedro and San Pablo islands.

On the property is a huge pineapple plantation. When the plants are bearing fruit, which is around Easter season, you can go there, pick and eat as much pineapple as you want

There is a trampoline on the facility that JJ enjoyed while Flor talked to the owner about renting the facility for the reunion.

I know it is not favorably looked upon in other countries, but rooster fight is a big deal in the Philippines. Almost all barangays (villages) have a rooster fight pit. Special feed and medicines for the roosters are sold. People who raise roosters take really good care of them. Tal-ay Ridge has a huge rooster farm. It also has wild boars and free range chicken.

The owner says there is a waterfall further up in the mountains from the hotel. Transportation would have to be arranged to go further up the road.

A zip line is in the works.  They have already started ordering cables from Germany and an engineer has been hired. This would be another attraction to draw to the place.

We are looking forward to seeing what the place will be like when they get everything completed.
